Professional Dental Hygiene

A deep clean that removes tartar, polishes enamel and refreshes your smile.

Professional dental hygiene is the cornerstone of preventive care. Even with excellent home brushing, mineralized deposits called tartar build up in places a toothbrush cannot reach. Left untreated, tartar leads to gum inflammation, bleeding and, over time, bone loss.

The hygienist uses ultrasonic instruments and fine hand tools to remove plaque and tartar from every surface, including just below the gumline. Polishing with a soft paste then smooths the enamel and reduces stain pickup from coffee, tea and tobacco.

Most adults benefit from a session every six to twelve months. Patients with implants, orthodontic appliances or a history of gum disease may need shorter intervals. The appointment usually takes between forty-five minutes and one hour and is generally painless.

At DentalIA we combine ultrasonic technology with airflow polishing on request, finishing each session with personalized advice on brushing technique, interdental cleaning and product choice.

Questions visitors often ask
Does it hurt?+

For most patients the session is comfortable. If you have sensitive teeth, let the hygienist know and we will adapt the technique.

How often should I have it done?+

Once or twice a year for most adults, more frequently for patients with gum disease, implants or braces.

Will my teeth look whiter?+

Polishing removes superficial stains, so teeth often look fresher and brighter, but it is not a whitening treatment.

Can I eat right after?+

Yes, but we suggest waiting a couple of hours before coffee, red wine or strongly colored foods to let the enamel rehydrate.
